There's another vegan in this base?!? I thought I was the only one.
As for the outfit, I love the meaning behind it, and I love that it furthered her career to new heights, but I must admit that it disturbs me that she wore the rotting flesh of a once living animal. Just my two cents.

The J&D instrumental is absolute fire, though. The lyrics are what make it so bad.

I agree. Also T.I's vocals are the only enjoyable ones besides the Gaga ones.

"Aura" (demo version) was perfect tbh. The lyrics, the screaming in the verses, the production... it all gave me a vibe of chaos, almost like a pop riot. A pop rebellion. A pop revolt. Honestly, it's one of her best songs, and if it was the lead single and things were handled 100% PERFECTLY , it could've been a f**king game changer.
"Venus" is amazing too, and the "when you touch me I die" chorus part serves some of the same "pop revolt" teas, but it feels a bit like it runs too long. Also, the production on the verses is a little too stiff, and the lyrics are meh. And the bridge is messy, and the song has too many parts imo. But it's still a change in the Gaga sound, so it's all good.
I agree that "G.U.Y." sounds like an updated version of "LoveGame", but what it really reminds me of is Britney Spear's "Stronger", if she got the most technologically up-to-date producers to update it's sound for the 2010s decade. The song also serves the same "chaotic pop riot" teas as the last two songs. The only meh part are the lyrics, which are a bit too simple.
"Do What U Want" isn't necessarily a good reinvention for EDM, but it did have Gaga explore new territory for her, and it payed off extremely well critically. It's my 2nd/3rd favorite song by her.
"Applause" is semi-dated, but it's still EDM, and different than her previous material, plus it slays, so.
|
Omg, I agree with almost all of this.
My favorite thing about 'Venus' is that Gaga is referencing the French phrase/euphemism for an orgasm, la petite mort, which means "the little death". "When you touch me, I die, just a little inside."
Britney is the first person I thought of when I heard 'G.U.Y.'. The bubblegum pop vocals slay.
I don't agree with 'Applause' being dated, though. I think it's probably the freshest-sounding single she has ever released.

How did I miss this? This link doesn't work for me, is there another one?

"We were in the swimming pool, I was naked, so were you, and I wrote this song while we made love. Dangerous poetry rhymed with our bodies, and now's the time for the trial with doubts and drawls".
