Honestly I really dont get the VMAs. Applause has 170M views on youtube, sold 2.5M copies in USA and was a radio hit. Why did not it get at least ONE nomination? Why a video like Turn Down For What gets nominated for ART DIRECTION? Why a video like Pretty Hurts gets nominated when the song was a flop and the video only has 37M views on youtube. All is said and done but why? Just because its Beyonce? This is so unfair. I am not meltdowning or something. It just doesnt make sense to me.
Gaga's not gracing them with her semi-deflated relevance this year so they snubbed her.
MTV is a popularity contest.
Its common knowlodge that Dark Horse was one of Katy's worst videos, and that Unconditinally should have got the nomination. But, MTV gave the nom to the video that contained audio of the biggest hit of the era. Its just how it works.

But the thing is, it's 1t hing to pay dust to Gaga because she didn't serve the usual slayage the past year. But how do they have the NERVE to nominate utter trash like the Problems video. 4 times ?
They just could name their show 'MTV Populair Music Awards'. I would not even blink. But it bothers me they are now also ruining award shows for videos by just nominating artist selected by scrolling trough the Billboard charts and not even paying attention to the video smh.
I wish MTV had thrown DWUW a nomination, just for the kiiis
Imagine if she had signed a contract with MTV guaranteeing her a nom/win in the Best Female/Pop/Collaboration Video categories with "Do What U Want", on the condition that she attend the ceremony + they exclusively premiere the video on MTV/MTV Hits/MTV.com.

Surprised at not even a single technical nomination for what was almost certainly the most expensive and elaborate music video in years. Then again they completely snubbed Ghosts by Michael Jackson which was pioneering in its special effects when it was released in 1996.

Gaga isn't nominated lol. I'm not surprised though, I knew this would happen.
However, Applause and G.U.Y. deserved at least 2 nominations in the Best Pop , and Art Direction categories.
The whole nominations are a mess anyway.

I still can't deal with the wasted potential that ARTPOP has. IMO, if Gaga had called the album Venus and went with the whole goddess of love theme it would've made "artpop" more cohesive. And I still think Aura, Venus, Sex Dreams, Manicure, and Dope are all hits that got away. The era should've been Aura, Venus, Do What U Want, Manicure, Dope, and Applause
