It had everything to do with it. They had a video idea already planned in advance, the first promo was gonna be for Venus, not DWUW. (see the horrible DWUW+Venus mashup on X Factor + throughout the UK).

All which made Gaga pissed because her precious Venus was snatched away. Then the era died.

The only way Venus would have possibly smashed is if she released a loop of the chorus. The verses and bridge are aggressively bad.

NO ONE knew about any of that. You make it seem like "Venus" should have been second and would have smashed or something. Confusion with the second single always occur, but it doesn't always affect the success of a song(s). DWUW wasn't meant to smash. ARTPOP was just a poor performing era. Accept it.
