So people vote and as long as a song is in the top ten the idols can promote it there until its done ranking? And they do top ten or more?

That's not how it works. There are many nugu's who promote their music that isn't even in the top 100 (which is primarily why all the shows have piss poor ratings...).
I think one manager said they literally have to beg the music show PD's to let their groups perform and sometimes the groups have all their members get on the floor and bow etc. (probably show their p****) because there are too many groups asking to perform.
If you're decently known then the music shows will almost always give you the green light to promote on the show unless you're JYJ (but they suck so who cares).
All shows now have awards you can win and most of them depend primarily on digital sales, but it's easily manipulable because there are many categories. For example, SM acts used to ALWAYS dominate Music Bank because a decent fraction of it's score to award songs was album sales and everyone knows SM acts don't play when it comes to album sales. Not to mention SM used to have their artists exclusively comeback on Music Bank so the PD would suck up to them.
Similarly, YG used to always make his acts comeback on Inkigayo first so without fail they almost always win at least one inkigayo award before they finish promoting. However, Inkigayo has always leaned towards digital sales so YG being favored isn't that unusual since YG acts usually do well digitally.
Music Core and MCountdown aren't as popular in terms of importance of award, but they have similar ratings I think.
