Not going to do the whole homophobia vs racism thing since both are vile but even though casual racism is alive and well, gays can be imprisoned and we still aren't given the same rights as straights ( black or white). I do have to agree on some of the points that she highlighted in the article but the same way as a gay, white male can't understand her struggle of being black and female, she also can't understand the struggle of being a gay male.

In leaving I will say that, in the grand scheme of things, adopting lingo isn't a big deal. It's the stuff like saying "I'm an independent, strong black woman" or glamorizing being "ratchet" that's the problem. It's a caricature of what it really is to be a black woman in America. It rides on stereotypes and is, in my estimation, the new manifestation of "black face".

When you have to use the black identity to paint yourself as wild and wreckless with "twerking", "ratchet", "ghetto" etc., you're doing that whole race a disservice.

For example, women in general have suffered discrimination but black women in countries like the USA have suffered twice as much and saying and they were/are strong for this, and maybe saying that "I am strong black woman inside" can be looked as a form of respect?
I'll be honest i have myself said that. But it was not in any case as mockery, it's by respect, coz i feel like black women always had to be stronger.

The troubling thing is black women are associated with being independent and headstrong but its made out to be a bad thing like "sassy" or "angry". If it were a white male who didn't need anyone's help to work hard or stood up for himself he would be ambitious and confident. Plenty of black girls do have to learn at a young age to stick up for themselves and not depend on people because being black and a woman isn't the easiest thing.

This is true. I cant obviously understand the struggle of black woman as a white gay. And she obviously cant understand my struggle of being gay. Two completely different things which should not be messed together

As a black woman, I honestly don't really mind white gays acting this way though. I mean it can get annoying and repetitive sometimes but it doesn't REALLY bother me. However I completely understand how and why other black people take issue with it.
