That's quite normal.
Thrift Shop was the biggest song of 2013 and was released in August 2012.
Somebody That I Used to Know was the biggest song of 2012 and was released in July 2011.
Rolling in the Deep was the biggest song of 2011 and was released in November 2010.
Tik Tok was the biggest song of 2010 and was released in August 2009.
Of course, Dark Horse might not be year-end #1 this year, if could be Happy or All Of Me, but whichever one it is, they were all released mid-2013, so the trend will continue. The biggest song of 2015 will probably be released in the next few months. Knowing ATRL everybody will say it's flopping 2 weeks after it's release...
