It's due largely to the availability of drag now, so to speak. Rupaul's Drag Race has commercialized drag culture and made it much more accessible to the average person than it was in the mid-2000s. I have to admit, the first time I found myself interested in drag queens came from that show. I was
drunk watching one of the earlier seasons about four years ago.
