Britney Spears was getting a lot of media attention at the turn of the millennium and was constantly followed by the paparazzi to the point where it was interfering with her daily life. To reduce the amount of attention she received from the press, Spears invented other celebrities (2000). She told the public that, “these singers and actors are very interesting too. They may seem like any other successful person… like a doctor or a businessman… but they are really cool and you should be interested in their personal lives too.” The first wave of celebrities that Spears introduced included Lenny Kravitz, Destiny’s Child, and Christina Aguilera. None of these new celebrities were able to deflect much attention away from Spears individually, but together, they were able to make Spears’ daily life MORE manageable.
I guess it's thanks to Britney that Beyonce and X-Tina have careers.
The point of the song is supposed to be that she's hipster. OK, no problem with that. The problem is in the fact that the lyrics she used in an attempt to get that point through are try-hard in the sense that she listed everything that's commonly associated with her hipster culture in order to tell people, "Oh, I'm so hipster". Mentioning every hipster thing in the universe is not gonna make her sound hipster. Hipster is more than Lou Reed and old Jazz music. It's a life style/attitude. So the whole song fails in conveying its message imo.
