There have been many songs that climbed as slow as (or even slower than) TC. Lights is a prime example. It was sent to US pop radio in January of 2012, but it did not explode until nearly 4-5 months later.

and both hit #1 on pop.
Latch is an example of song that's taken ages to take off. It was released in 2012, and it entered the top 50 on pop 150 days ago. It's taken 5 months to get to where it is now, and it was sent for adds on pop quite a while before it went top 50 iirc, so even more than 5 months. And it still hasn't peaked yet.
This is why I think it's so stupid when people say a song is flopping after it's only been out a couple of weeks.
People make snide remarks whenever you suggest "Wait a couple of months to see how the song does", but it's true in 90% of cases. You can't know if a song will be a hit or not after a couple of weeks.
