Nobody has responded to me regarding oversexualized black pop girls.

Well I think in general that most female artists have been sexualized. If Britney hadn't been seen as some sort of sexual object, she would have never been as famous as she is. Same goes with Christina, Miley, Selena, Jessica, Gaga, etc. Sex sells in anything. There was Whitney, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, India Arie, Tracy Chapman, Brandy (She wasn't sexualized when she first came out), Emile Sande. It all comes down to what the individual artist is willing to promote. If they think it's ok to sell sex to get popular, then they will allow it. That's partly why Lauryn Hill dropped out was because they were trying to represent her in a sexual way but she didn't want that. People liked her for her music and honesty when she was at the top and she wasn't seen as a sexual object. I believe that it can still happen, but the problem lies with the industry and the general public wanting to see/sell sex and not focus on talent, no matter the skin color. It's a shame because if you really look at most female careers, a good part of it is about being sexualized even if they have great talent or not.

How am I generalizing when it's the truth . Black stations black people are saying the same damn thing I am saying . We want unity and too show ppl that we deserve respect but we aren't doing anything to show .

Yeah, the mods can close this thread..apparently I was thinking more of black culture as a whole and the entertainment aspect of black people slaying..
I don't have a watch, so I don't have the time to get into the "racial" aspects of this issue.

I never knew people can be so racist in 2014, but it's institutionalised racism at work I guess

You can speak for yourself, you self-hating Uncle Tom. Every race has good and bad people. Doesn't mean the race as a whole must suffer from their actions. Goodbye.

The whole lightskin vs darkskin argument . It's just all foolish

But how many of those kids had poor education and weren't taught properly about sex and protection? Some of those people on welfare aren't there by choice either. Some of them are also the most AMAZING people I have ever met that just so happened to be dealt a ****** hand at life. Yes maybe they made some mistakes, but we all do. It's just unfortunate that their mistake happened to be bringing a life into this world when they're not ready. Thus regenerating the cycle. If you look at where most of the poverty is, you'll find a lot of that is also in line with poor education and teenage pregnancies. It all just goes hand in hand. Which then leads us back to our government and how they view low income communities. Some people no matter their race, just can't seem to get out of poverty because they also got a ****** education or no education at all. A kid can't really control the environment in which they are raised. They can change their life when they're older, but some of them just don't know how. It has nothing to do with being black or anything. It has everything to do with how we as a country view our lower income communities.

That's a generalization. Never been on welfare. Upper middle class family. & black. I demand respect. Do not lump me with a few people of color. You consigning on this majes others think it is okay to do. Be careful what you say because you never know who is watching. Respect is a human right ok matter the color of someone's skin. This thread is about culture & you just answered it. People use out culture because it has quality. They don't use us because they only see our people as ghetto welfare recipients.... Thanks Mr. O'Reily

This isn't the 90s. I'm talking about in the 10s. It aint most females anything when y'all Clarkson/Adele/Ellie/Pink/Lord/Taylor/Lana/Demi's getting pushed. We have all these lightskin super sexy Nicki, Bey and Rih tho. That's all the labels/radio push. All we have is Emily? She don't even look black anymore.

This thread is a tad bit misguided. I see what you were going for, but the execution was messy.

Exactly. We don't need to show white people ****. The victim blaming is outrageous. I am not responsible for the actions of my brothers and sisters and I shouldn't be punished for them. A woman was shot dead in the head for knocking on the white mans door this week, because he thought she was trying to rob him, but I guess that was her fault for not being unified. Maybe she should have been a newer black.

It's life sweetie . I'm gay and suddenly the whole world thinks I'm a flaming fem homosexual that likes to have sex and wants every straight man I see . Once someone ****s up everybody gets lumped into it . So even though you maybe a middle class citizen (like I) people are still going to look at you funny because you are black . And the things out ppl have done . Don't get me wrong I'm not defending white ppl but I'm saying that's how we are viewed .

There is always one black that tries to come off edgy by calling other blacks sensitive or welfare takers to seem above it all.

Excellent thread idea.
But, as usual, ATRL members have to make it messy
