And yes I became a fan after ARTPOP was released, she converted me with her AMA performance
I been actually thinking what the difference is between ARTPOP and her older work since I had some catching up to do past months.
Comparing ARTPOP with BTW or TFM, ARTPOP is hollow, as if you can sense it comes from a different place. BTW and TFM felt like albums she HAD to do, the passion you hear in those recordings you do not find on ARTPOP (bar maybe DWUW which was a good reason to put it out as a single).
Gaga needs her soul on an album to make it work, you need to feel it and believe it, I think that's something she gambled with and lost.
