I don't think any of the Islamic members of our online community would have read my comment, had their eyes well up with tears, backed away from their computer, walked into their kitchen and gone "mom...dad...some guy on the internet just jokingly said I should join atheism, and then he wrote a gaycat emoji."
Like ok, the joke wasn't appreciated. That doesn't mean it was insensitive. Or are non-funny jokes warnable now?

You should be happy that you got only one point for insensitive. If it was another moderator, the latter could have handed you double WPs for offensive. I am not a Muslim but I am religious and I believe in God and to be honest, I would have been very offended by that post. Certain things are just not meant to be joked about whether subtly or openly.
As much as I appreciate you, I would suggest you to move on. I have been warned for things way less insensitive than you have just posted. Let it go and let's not fuel this discussion any further. It's only a point and it will expire in a month.

Good, because that's not the definition of being insensitive. That is a strawman argument.
Saying something isn't "appreciated" means that they are in fact offended by it. Or at least not happy with it. It doesn't mean that they simply didn't think it wasn't funny.
Fact is it got reported, so apparently someone was offended by it.
The thread was about the Islamic Ramadan, and you post about feeling free to join Atheism. When it comes to religion people really do not appreciate that, especially in a period where they are supposed to meditate on their religion and enlightenment. Ramadan is more than simply fasting.
I'm not going to reverse it.

I didn't think the post was that bad, or have been warned in an Easter thread but meh; still unnecessary.

Understandable. I guess I've just become desensitised to inter-religious jokes considering my Muslim friends and I are always paying each other out about our beliefs. And that's not an "I'm not racist, my friend is black" sentiment, I have Turkish and Indonesian friends who are (or used to be) Muslims and the jokes we all crack around them would probably get me permabanned. As a result, I guess I didn't realise that comment was offensive.
If all these people are telling me it is, then I guess it is, and so now I feel guilty. So I'd like to go back to that thread and apologise to anyone that I may have offended. And I'm not trying to sound sarcastic or like I have an attitude when I ask this - but will I get another warning point for that?

I don't think anyone would really hold it against you and don't think it's really necessary to apologize, but of course I won't warn you for that

I fail to see how or where it's offensive. Like where is it insensitive? Obviously it's the "feel free to join Atheism " bit. But I feel if we're to be equal in this world, we need to be able to treat each other equally with out one group suffering different consequences. And if I spoke about my Atheism, or opened up about my lack of beliefs or an Atheist convention I went to at Uni, and someone commented "you need Jesus " there is absolutely NO WAY that person would receive a warning point for it.
Consequently, as an Atheist, I feel discriminated against, and I don't think it's fair.

I agree with this
I'm sick of them trying to silence us Agnostics/Atheists for our beliefs. People are free to run a muck and talk about Jesus, god, praying for people, going to church etc on a regular basis. Telling people they need jesus, and all of that stuff. There are entire threads dedicated to certain religions but as soon as anyone says something opposite it's either deleted or "insensitive". This isn't bible camp

It doesn't. I was just stating I didn't know.
It's interesting to see people with different religious beliefs than me.
Calm your ****.

Like I said, I'm Atheist myself. I'm really not silencing anyone. There's just a time and place for everything, and that wasn't the right place.
FAME. I'm also very much against forcing religion on people, but in the very same way I'm against forcing Atheism on people. I'm for having people believe what they believe and keeping it at that. As long as people don't judge me I won't judge them.

I agree with the time and place thing but...this is an online forum. What better place or time to express your beliefs? It's not like we're walking into a Church in the middle of Easter mass or something

With "not the right place" I meant that that specific thread was not the right place

I trust the moderating team is aware of a certain fan of music's excessive posting across the site over the past few days? I know he's been warned for it before.
