Yes the chorus is from the Ellen performance. That chorus is really damaging to the voice is my bet on why she doesn't do it every time. I'm glad she's not actually, don't want her to end up like Julia Volkova especially when Sia is my favorite vocalist of all my faves.

I think this is the case too, but I wish they did SOMETHING to make it different so it's not so obvious. Have her sing a couple of the lines over, splice the Ellen vocals with studio vocals... but having the EXACT same audio over and over is so awkward when she's doing several different TV performances

Yeah not sure why she doesn't just sing over pre-recorded vocals, it'd be understandable for the chorus since it's vocally damaging if she sings it often.
