Greg Kurstin came up with the concept of "Money Power Glory" after working with Beyoncé Knowles on her track "Standing On The Sun".[11] Knowles' obsession with wealth and power stood in stark contrast to Del Rey's wish to create music she loves, with no regard for its commercial appeal. Del Rey agreed to embody a Knowles-like character who forgoes spirituality and morality in a quest for endless wealth.[11] Kurstin later commented on his collaboration with Del Rey, saying "It was a completely different world, working with Lana. With Beyoncé and Sia you're desperately searching for that hook, the next big hit. With Lana it was a breath of fresh air. We just wanted to make good music."[12]
