I think the album release plan would be a good idea for Adele. She clearly doesn't want to deal with the pressures of a huge promotional campaign, meeting expectations with a lead single, touring and performing, etc.

We all remember Run The World killing all of the hype and momentum from the IASF era and ruining her opening week. We remember the BEYONCÉ singles killing all of the hype and momentum, causing constant 20% drops in weekly album sales. Hit singles seem to come easily to Adele. I think she'll have strong singles to carry the album well so she doesn't need the surprise release strategy

I mean she hasn't done anything since Perfumes MV was released, she never shades anybody, she never praises herself or hypes herself up. Literally the most harmless thing ever and she still has people so angry over her.
