I'll never understand Beyonce stans that act like the surprise release was such a massive event and so culturally impactful, yet judging from their posts they clearly don't think it was massive enough to get the album to outsell another one that happened to have just a couple of quick lil singles

They need to make up their minds. I remember them bragging about her album sales and now they act like Katy is supposed to sell more albums than Beyonce because she isn't promoting.

Katy's last promo was two months ago and Birthday is flopping, and her sales remain consistent.

You missed all the other suprise releases and artist saying they were inspired by it .
Every future suprise release will be compared to self titled meanwhile many have come with quick lil singles and have been forgotten by the world.

Well, that is one way of looking at it. How about BEYONCE outsold Prism in 3 months with one hit and less of a stellar promo tour? I'm surprise BEYONCE is still selling because imo the era has already ended and forgotten, there is nothing to look forward to and Beyonce is not promoting or has any promo plans that is going to be effective on sales. The album has sold well tho. If it wasn't, it wouldn't have outsold nearly everyone else. I mean.

What other pop girl recently has been effortlessly outselling everyone? Not Lorde. Not Katy. Not selena. Not Gaga.

She's still selling without the promo, but everyone that has a functioning brain could tell you that promoting your album will help it sell better. . I mean that's common sense.
