Taylor is far from vanilla though. Her style is simple, yet effective and also very clever. Exactly. It's also the problem. She's able to make the listener aware of the topic she's singing about without every conveying her emotions/feeling regarding that topic to the listener. She says she's sad without sounding sad. She only sounds melodramatic. She says I'm crazy without sounding crazy. She only sounds bored.

Lana sings about relationships in also a very straightforward manner too. The only thing that differs in their songwriting styles is the details they use. Taylor's straightforward style works for her/is mostly effective. Lana's mostly doesn't imo. Like I said, saying that you feel a particular emotion won't make the listener feel that emotion. You gotta try to find an image that conveys that emotion, which is something Lana really fails at imo.

Um, NOW, this is only my opinion. There is no correct or incorrect method of songwriting. I'm only stating which method conveys emotion to me. Lana's method may convey emotion to you, which means that it's correct/it works....for you. Like I said, I was only talking about my point of view of what her lyrics do or don't convey to me.
