Pills N Potions sonically sounds like numerous indie songs that have smashed during the summer. The only difference is Nicki is rapping.
Every summer we have a few hipster, indie, soft rock, alternative pop (and other non-typical) songs that are played in a bunch of TV commercials in the US and eventually smash (at least Top 20, platinum) based on that exposure. PnP to me is like those songs more than the type of songs you're describing or implying it's like.
