Dare is really bad. It's like Shakira wanted to do another World Cup song but didn't have enough time so she was only able to get something out of the trash bin.
The "La La La" part is "alright" but the rest is unlistenable.
let's not even talk about We Are One. but at least it has a good message I guess. We need a cute bop like Wavin' Flag.
I feel like the days of huge stars having radio hits (honest ones) are over. Radio and general music listeners are always looking for someone new, not something new. These bands who we won't even remember in 5 years are always getting hits never to be heard from again.
Lady Gaga ruined the pop star image, now people see them as celebs who sing instead of singers.
This sounds more like a proper WC theme than the Pitbull track. On its own merits, this trumps that mediocre Rihanna duet, and returns to my favorite merit of Shakira: she’s a weirdo. I’ve argued for almost a decade now that she’s the South American, poppier counterpart to Björk, and I continue to stand by that assessment. Here, she took a song which is not about soccer (the original goes “Is it true that you love me/I dare you to kiss me,” etc.) and overlaid a slight sports theme atop it, at the same time that Carlinhos Brown was brought in to overlay a vaguely Brazilian musical feel to the track. This song makes absolutely no sense, and is all the better for it. Its kitchen-sinkness works, plus I can frankly listen to Shakira belt for hours, because her voice is one of the seven modern wonders of the world.
The GP hasn't changed. If the girls had delivered then they'd be slaying right now. But a global smash hit is something special, creating one isn't easy. Even if you have all the money in the world. Just ask Pepcé.
