plus, if the source from RIAA says he was the first to have 2, then i believe them. theyre the ones certifying, after all

RIAA only counts US streams.
How many times have those songs been streamed on platforms outside of Vevo, like Spotify? It might not add up to 400/500 million which might be why they haven't been certified yet.

I'm almost certain those views are not all from the US (especially considering that those songs were highly global).

Firework and Roar will probably be her first two diamond certified singles, but we won't know for sure until RIAA confirms it. It also depends on if and when the label pays for the certifications. The RIAA doesn't automatically certify singles and albums.

YouTube views count as streams. Since Youtube views are WW, not every stream is from the US. Since the RIAA only count US streams for single certification, that might be a reason the songs haven't been certified yet. The RIAA also takes streams from other streaming platforms like Spotify into account.

So maybe the combined US streams of Not Afraid are higher than the ones for Roar? Maybe her label can't be bothered to certify the songs? There's really no use in worrying over unofficial accomplishments when Katy has so many impressive official ones.
