I love this remix. The production on the second verse KNOCKS.

I was really hoping ARTPOP would be filled with experimental 7-minute tracks busting with tempo and beat changes, with interludes that create an experience - not a collection of songs. Alas

This. It actually happened with Tony Bennett himself after Amy Winehouse died and they got the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammy for "Body and Soul". As Cher put it:

I don't want anyone to die, and would much rather they stay alve and continue to make music. However, it's historically proven that artists dying boosts their sales and (usually) provides them with posthumous awards. It's a rather morbid and dark subject, yes, and I don't want anyone to die, but in the case that someone does, what we've discussed is still true.
