I just don't think she wants to be taken that seriously yet. Which is the biggest pop girl problem, and is exactly what happened to gaga (only bringing her up for the example don't come for ha). Hell just look at Katy's last two videos.

Katy just needs to show at least some improvement each album, without making a great one and she will be fine.

Also the fact that Spiritual, Dark Horse, and Legendary Lovers even exist shows that she is capable of making good music.

I think it was more the image/attitude she had back then that you can really feel in the music. She was cool

as much as we harp on katy being a bad singer, i really wonder how taylor would sound covering roar or unconditionally. or country standards for that matter. taylor has no range at all and her songs are not challenging at all to sing which is why she is a good live performer.

she wrote from experience and you could just tell
I mean Fingerprints, Lost, One of the Boys, Self Inflicted, I'm Still Breathing, were all masterpieces.
I totally believed Katy experienced all those things.
Whereas with TD, and songs like Last Friday Night (I would be lying if I said Katy was believable as the mischievous party girl who sang the song), California Gurls, ET and Firework (basically her biggest songs) you can just tell they were engineered in a pop music lab, perfected for radio and iTunes and noting more. Except for Teenage Dream (the song) which is quite possibly the best pop song ever written in the history of pop music both lyrically and melody wise.

Yes, studio fixes your vocal flaws but why would she write a chorus that she struggles to sing outside of her comfort zone?

And even if she isn't writing by herself, she should be able to say no to vocal risks if she's having a hard time.

OOTB's Katy was the best. I remember when my older bro got into her and bought the physical copy of OOTB and kept playing it all the time. If You Can Afford Me was a favourite.

He dislikes her nowadays and probably hasn't even listened to PRISM.
