Ever since she announced the title I've thought we should have known it would happen. It's so obvious; Red is such a strong color, it represents dozens of different things. It was all over her stage for the Speak Now Tour. She wore red dresses for her most heartfelt songs (does that make sense?).
She has always liked metaphors and expressing her feelings. The color red is the perfect mix of both. If it hadn't happened during the LP 4 era I'm sure she would have written a song like that at some point in her life anyway.
Also, I think I mentioned it here before (not sure) but I went to the SN tour with a friend of mine and it's actually the first thing she told me after the show was over: "Wow! The color red was everywhere, I think it represents well her emotions."
Never knew how much she was right until Taylor announced Red.
Cannot wait for the release of LP5
Because considering OneRepublic are doing a song for The Giver I wouldn't be surprised their collaboration was just for The Giver's soundtrack.
