The Fault in Our Stars novel was already huge tho, a hit movie adaptation was a sure thing based on the readers alone, combine that with the the great marketing and you have a blockbuster.
Pills N Potions is a perfect introduction to her 3rd album though. How are the verses subpar?
Maybe to a pop album. Definitely NOT to a rap album. And not in the summer time? And how are they NOT subpar? She isn't going hard at all. She isn't saying anything super outstanding. They rhyme well and it's cute but it's no "Monster" verse.
Your Love was light-hearted, fun, catchy, and kind of a bop. Pills N Potions is none of those things. I LOVE Tapout and I think a song similar to that would've done amazing.
Ultimately I don't understand why she'd bother with any song that is more pop than Super Bass. 2012 happened for a reason. Her not learning from the mistakes of that year is not only surprising but also disappointing. Nicki has it in her to be great but she's still not doing it.

A popular book doesn't always make a good movie adaptation. "World War Z" happened.

I like Chris's music, and I started really loving Loyal after I saw the video. His X era music has been absolutely ace so far. I just wish he'd finally released the album.
I loved Graffiti & F.A.M.E. (F.A.M.E. in particular is excellent) but I thought Fortune was unusually terrible besides the clear standout Turn Up the Music.
Also as we all know touring wasn't always the business it is today. Billboard credits her for that too.

Barbra Streisand is now officially the highest-priced touring act of all time, charging fans as much as $1,500 (plus a service fee of $75) for a single ticket to see her perform live when she returns to Brooklyn at the Barclays Center on Oct. 11 and 13.
Already one of the best-selling female artists of all time, Streisand isn’t shy about her worth -- and fans apparently agree. With many dates on her latest tour sold out, tickets from resellers and scalpers are going for as much as $12,867 on one eBay listing.
Insiders say Streisand's drawing power is exceptional. "She has been credited with shattering the glass ceiling before," says Ray Waddell, senior editor of touring at Billboard magazine. Waddell notes that before Streisand's last national tour in 1994, "Tickets were rarely more than $100. After that, the floodgates opened."
