Sales matter. They generate money and are what labels/artists want.
Grammy's matter. That's the real "acclaim" artists want.
Music critics only matter when it comes to indie artists.
But for pop music, critics don't really matter.
Grammys only matter cause they bring more record sales. Nobody cares about awards that don't affect sales.
In the end it all boils down to record sales. That's the only meaningful success you can have as an artist.
