There was a hunter in the woods, who, after a long day hunting, was in the middle of an immense forest. It was getting dark, and having lost his bearings, he decided to head in one direction until he was clear of the increasingly oppressive foliage. After a what seemed like hours, he came across a cabin in a small clearing. Realizing how dark it had grown, he decided to see if he could stay there for the night. He approached, and found the door ajar. Nobody was inside. The hunter flopped down on the single bed, deciding to explain himself to the owner in the morning. As he looked around, he was suprised to see the walls adorned by many portraits, all painted in incredible detail. Without exception, they appeared to be staring down at him, their features twisted into looks of hatred. Staring back, he grew increasingly uncomfortable. Making a concerted effort to ignore the many hateful faces, he turned to face the wall, and exhausted, he fell into a restless sleep.
Face down in an unfamiliar bed, he turned blinking in unexpected sunlight. Looking up, he discovered that the cabin had no portraits, only windows.

I know all stories on this subreddit are assumed to be true, but I would swear on my life that this particular case is true.
I have lived in America all my life, and we have these family friends from Pakistan. They moved here when their kids were young. The family has the mother, father, older son, middle daughter (Anna), and younger son.
What the family has gone through can be attributed to simply bad luck, but I think there's a hell of a lot of incidents (both paranormal and "real") for it to be only that (all of these incidents are in a random order, I'm sorry for formatting because I have no idea how it works):
Paranormal:
Family went for visit in Pakistan. They have an elderly uncle in their extended family who lives at the home in Pakistan with him. Everyone else wanted to go shopping, but the uncle wasn't feeling up to it, so they left him at home. The family didn't take keys or anything, assuming the uncle would open the door for them on the way back.
Family arrives back home from shopping trip. They ring the bell, no one answers. The doorbell runs on electricity so they assumed there was a power outage and started knocking on the door. No answer. There's a maid and they call out for her, but still no answer.
The kids keep knocking on the door while the adults walk around the house and try to open the windows or the back door, but they're all locked and won't budge. Finally, the maids answers the door, and she's freaking out. They follow her into the room where the uncle was sleeping. He's still on the bed into the middle of the room, snoring, but all of the walls are splattered with blood.
The maid said she must have fallen asleep while cleaning up in the kitchen, because her head was on the counter when she came to and she had this feeling telling her to go check on the uncle.
-O-
The family went for a trip to Holland. The mother's older brother, younger brother, and sister and their families live there. The family stayed with the mother's sister. One day the older brother calls up the sister's house, just to check in and stuff.
The daughter (Anna) picks up the phone. Their conversation goes something like:
OB: Hi Anna, how are you?
A: Fine, how are you?
OB: Good, can I talk to [his sister]?
A: Sorry, her family and the rest of my family went over to [younger brother]'s house.
OB: Okay, why didn't you go?
A: I felt bit sick so mom said it was okay if I stayed.
OB: Are you sure you're fine at home? You know the emergency numbers and everything?
A: Yeah, I'm fine, they left the numbers on the fridge.
So the older brother called up the younger brother's house, wondering why the hell they would leave Anna, who is sick, home alone in a foreign country.
Anna's mother picks up. When the older brother asks about Anna, the mother says, confused, "But Anna's sitting right next to me."
-O-
The family's mother's father is on a road trip. He is quite elderly but in good shape so he often goes on little trips to different cities within Pakistan.
The grandfather is driving along on a fairly empty, long road when out of nowhere the car starts smelling horrible. He continues to drive for a few minutes, trying to ignore the smell, thinking it's coming from outside. After a while he realizes it's getting stronger and the smell is coming from inside.
The grandfather stops his car. He pulls up on the side of the road and goes through the backseat of the car, looking for any rotten food or something that could've caused the smell. Finding nothing, he opens up the trunk, and there's a pile of literal cow **** there. There are no cows for miles around and there's no way anyone at home had access to cow ****. This huge pile of crap just appears in his trunk.
So he's thinking what the **** but the piles of **** is actually huge so he has no choice but to try to clean it up, or else the smell on the way to the city and back will be unbearable.
He finds some way to clean it up, but it takes quite a while, and understandably, he's feeling pissed off and horrible after it so he just decides to cut his trip short and go back home. Later, he finds out that right around the time he would've reached the city he was heading for, a bomb went off that killed almost a hundred people.

When the family used to live in Pakistan and the kids were younger, there was this time that Anna just went missing.
It was a pretty big house, so they looked in all of the rooms and closets and bathrooms and couldn't find her, but then someone realized that one of the bathrooms on the top floor was locked.
Through the door, you could someone putting the toilet seat up and down, over and over, and the parents assumed Anna was stuck there and playing with the seat. They called for her through the door, but she didn't reply, which was strange because she was about three years old and could speak fairly well.
The dad brought his toolbox and sat down to make work of the door knob. The toilet seat kept being put up and down through the time that he tried unlocking the door. The other kids continued to look through the house for Anna.
After about half-an-hour of working on the knob, the dad still couldn't get the door to open. The kids returned with no trace of Anna. The toilet seat starting being put up and down at a faster rate and the mother tried to coax Anna into stopping or at least giving a response, but the toilet seat seemed to reach an inhuman speed of being put up and down. The family started getting freaked out and they still couldn't find Anna so they called the police.
They waited out the time it took for the police to come right by the bathroom door. After a few minutes, the toilet seat stopped being put up and down, and there was the sound of someone small walking in the bathroom. The parents found some relief, taking it as proof that it was in fact Anna in the bathroom and she was shocked or panicked into not responding.
Then they hear the bathroom window, six feet from the floor (they have high ceilings in Pakistan), start opening and shutting. After a few moments, the toilet seat resumed its opening and shutting.
The parents are in full-on panic mode and they take all of the kids outside to wait in front of the house. The police arrive and ram open the bathroom door and nothing's there, but the window is left open. Anna is found hiding in a corner of a closet. She said she was playing hide and seek.
Anna used to have an imaginary friend (this is in the US). She is very, very insistent that he exists. The family leaves a spot for him at the table, makes a dinner plate for him; the works.
Anna has lots of conversations with this friend (nothing too scary, just normal childish blabbering), and the mother starts to grow concerned. She takes Anna to a doctor and he tells the mother it's normal. The friend abruptly disappears one day.
-O-
Anna's older brother, Adam, is taking a shower when he's younger. The glass is fogged up while he's taking his shower and he sees a hand that looks like it belongs to an old lady press against the glass. He screams and sees a figure through the glass, going towards the door, and then she disappears.
-O-
Another family visit to Pakistan. Mother's sister, Tara (she's single), is at the family home with them, they're just talking and laughing and having a good time. Tara goes into the kitchen. From the kitchen, you can see the stairs leading to the second floor. Tara sees an old woman descending the stairs, coming towards her, and she blacks out.
When she wakes up she cries to family about the woman and they believe her but tell it wasn't real so she isn't put into more of a panic.
Also in Pakistan. It's hot inside so the mother decides to pull out a cot onto the balcony and sleep there (this is common over there). She takes her cot and settles down and sleeps.
She's woken up by an old woman, inches from her face. She tries to scream but she feels like she can't. She watches the woman retreat into the house, and from her viewpoint, laying on the cot, she can easily see the woman's feet. They are completely backwards. In Pakistan, this is fabled to be the sign of a witch.
Real:
Back in Pakistan, Anna was on the road, waiting for her school van to come up her and her brothers. Seemingly out of nowhere, two vans came and she got caught in the middle. They both hit her and she, thankfully, only had one leg severely injured. She had surgery and all was well after a while.
-O-
Tara, the mother's sister, eventually got married. She has two kids with her husband. One day they decide to go on vacation to the mountainous side of Pakistan.
When they arrive at their hotel it's pitch black outside. The husband drops off Tara and the kids at the hotel entrance so they can check-in while he parks the car. The husband starts to park the car with the help of two employees of the hotel, who signal for him whether he should back up more or pull forward more, etc. He's parking his car on the edge of this mountain where the hotel is built.
The employees look away for a second and when they look back the car is gone. The car had gone clear off the edge of the mountain. The husband didn't survive.
When the family was about to leave for vacation, Tara remembers him saying, "We're going to heaven on this trip." He had also bought life insurance only a week before they left.
I'm sure I'm missing some stories so I'll edit those in when I remember them.
The family in question, from the mother's side (including Tara and the brothers and sister in Holland) are absolutely stunning. They have bright green eyes and light brown hair, which are fairly uncommon in Pakistan, and they could all work as models if they wanted, which leads the mother's husband to think someone cursed their family with the "evil eye", which is why weird **** keeps happening to them. I stayed with this family for about a month when I was in-between houses and I was pretty terrified for a while.

In 1983, a team of deeply pious scientists conducted a radical experiment in an undisclosed facility. The scientists had theorized that a human without access to any senses or ways to perceive stimuli would be able to perceive the presence of God. They believed that the five senses clouded our awareness of eternity, and without them, a human could actually establish contact with God by thought. An elderly man who claimed to have “nothing left to live for” was the only test subject to volunteer. To purge him of all his senses, the scientists performed a complex operation in which every sensory nerve connection to the brain was surgically severed. Although the test subject retained full muscular function, he could not see, hear, taste, smell, or feel. With no possible way to communicate with or even sense the outside world, he was alone with his thoughts.
Scientists monitored him as he spoke aloud about his state of mind in jumbled, slurred sentences that he couldn’t even hear. After four days, the man claimed to be hearing hushed, unintelligible voices in his head. Assuming it was an onset of psychosis, the scientists paid little attention to the man’s concerns.
Two days later, the man cried that he could hear his dead wife speaking with him, and even more, he could communicate back. The scientists were intrigued, but were not convinced until the subject started naming dead relatives of the scientists. He repeated personal information to the scientists that only their dead spouses and parents would have known. At this point, a sizable portion of scientists left the study.
After a week of conversing with the deceased through his thoughts, the subject became distressed, saying the voices were overwhelming. In every waking moment, his consciousness was bombarded by hundreds of voices that refused to leave him alone. He frequently threw himself against the wall, trying to elicit a pain response. He begged the scientists for sedatives, so he could escape the voices by sleeping. This tactic worked for three days, until he started having severe night terrors. The subject repeatedly said that he could see and hear the deceased in his dreams.
Only a day later, the subject began to scream and claw at his non-functional eyes, hoping to sense something in the physical world. The hysterical subject now said the voices of the dead were deafening and hostile, speaking of hell and the end of the world. At one point, he yelled “No heaven, no forgiveness” for five hours straight. He continually begged to be killed, but the scientists were convinced that he was close to establishing contact with God.
After another day, the subject could no longer form coherent sentences. Seemingly mad, he started to bite off chunks of flesh from his arm. The scientists rushed into the test chamber and restrained him to a table so he could not kill himself. After a few hours of being tied down, the subject halted his struggling and screaming. He stared blankly at the ceiling as teardrops silently streaked across his face. For two weeks, the subject had to be manually rehydrated due to the constant crying. Eventually, he turned his head and, despite his blindness, made focused eye contact with a scientist for the first time in the study. He whispered “I have spoken with God, and he has abandoned us” and his vital signs stopped. There was no apparent cause of death.

In the late 1800s, Thomas Otto and his family moved in to a mansion at the corner of Eaton and Simonton streets in Key West, Florida now known as the Artist House. The Ottos were known to be stern with their servants, sometimes even mistreating them. It was the treatment of one such Haitian servant that provides a twist in this story.
This woman was hired to take care of their son, Robert. One day, Mrs. Otto supposedly witnessed her practicing black magic in their backyard and fired her.
Before she left, the woman gave Robert a lifelike doll which stood 3 feet tall, had buttons for eyes, human hair (believed to be Robert's), and was filled with straw.
Dolls that resembled children were not unheard of during this time, but this one proved to be special. Robert named the doll after himself and often dressed it in his clothes. Robert, the doll, became his trustworthy companion. He took it with him on shopping trips into town. The doll had a seat at the dinner table where Robert would sneak it bites of food when his parents weren't looking. Robert would even be tucked into bed with the boy at night. Soon this innocent relationship took on a strange nature.
Soon after, Robert chose to be referred to by his middle name, Gene, after being scolded by his Mother. He told her that Robert was the doll's name, not his. Gene was often heard in his toy room having conversations with Robert. Gene would say something in his childish manner and responses could be heard in a much lower voice. Sometimes Gene would become very agitated, worrying the servants and his mother. She would, on occasion, burst in to find her son cowering in a corner while Robert sat perched in a chair or on the bed glaring at him. This was only the beginning.
Household objects would be found thrown across the room, Gene's toys turned up mutilated, and giggling could be heard. Whenever these unusual acts took place, Gene always said, "Robert did it!" The boy took the punishment but always insisted that the blame was Robert's. As the mischief grew, more and more servants took their leave as new ones were hired. The Ottos' relatives felt it was time to do something. With the recommendation of a great aunt, Gene's parents removed Robert from his care and placed him in a box in the attic. This is where he resided for many years.
After the death of his father, Gene was willed his boyhood home. He decided to live in the Victorian mansion with his new wife. Gene had become an artist, and felt the house was spacious and would provide a place for him to paint. He went to the attic and dusted off his childhood toy. He became attached to the doll despite his wife's displeasure. Gene would take the doll along with them everywhere they went. He even sat in his favorite little chair while Gene and his wife slept nearby. The Turret Room became Robert's domain after Mrs. Otto moved him back to the attic. Their marriage slowly became sour until Mrs. Otto supposedly went insane and died of unknown reasons. Gene followed soon behind.
Robert supposedly attacked people, sometimes locking them in the attic. People who passed by claimed to hear evil laughter coming from the Turret Room. For some time, Robert remained in the empty house by himself until a new family purchased the mansion and restored it. The doll was once again moved to the attic. This pleased it as much as the last time. The doll was often found throughout the house. On one certain night, Robert was found at the foot of the owners' bed giggling with a kitchen knife in hand. This was enough to send them fleeing from the home.
Robert was later moved to the East Martello Museum in Key West, where he sits perched in a glass box. Despite his new living quarters, the doll is believed to not have given up his menacing ways. Visitors and employees claim they have seen the doll move. His smile has been known to turn into a scowl. One employee cleaned Robert, turned off all the lights and left for the night.
The next day, he returned to find lights turned on, Robert sitting in a different position than the night before and a fresh layer of dust on his shoes. Some say he'll even curse you. If you want to take a picture of him, you must ask politely. He'll tilt his head in permission. However, if he doesn't and you take the picture anyways, a curse will befall upon you and anyone who accompanied you to the museum. The same will happen if you make fun of him.
To this day, Robert remains at the East Martello Museum in his sailor suit clutching his stuffed lion, continuing his menacing ways.
