Clearly Shakira cares considering her album title "Shakira." is a "janet." rip off. And this applies more to any Shakira album that came after Hips Don't Lie. Will Shakira. even outsell Discipline?
Janet makes pop music, she barely has any pure r&b singles
Most of the Control/RN singles were new jackswing, and most of the The Velvet Rope/janet. singles were r&b/urban. When she did pop friendly songs like All For You, Together Again and That's The Way Love Goes, she smashed globally (hence the latter two making the global all-time chart)
