I actually agree with the Julianne Hough bit. The shade of foundation wasn't even that dark at all. If she wasn't in costume as Crazy Eyes from Orange Is The New Black, then we would have all just been like "woah, bad makeup day." I mean, Snooki and JWoww leave the house looking darker than that.
Furthermore, I think if we are to just recognise that skin colour is only that, skin colour, then it shouldn't be insensitive to replicate that for the sake of a costume. If a little girl puts on a red afro wig to be Annie, redheads don't unite and say "HOW. DARE. SHE." And that's all red hair is, a physical attribute. I understand that racial history is a lot different, but we can't be responsible for the cultural insensitivity of 'blackface' in the early 1900s when most of us weren't born until the 1990s. I think if we are to move forward, we need to recognise that all it is is a physical attribute, like blonde hair or something.
And all races need to be on the same playing field. After all, we are all equal. And I didn't find White Chicks offensive. That was basically 'white face' and I found it hilarious.
