However, I dont think its appropriate to equate Justin Bieber's really offputting and tasteless joke with him being a racist. I think this is a really classic case of ignorance at its finest. You have an unchecked Hollywood star, who probably hasn't been educated in the struggle of minorities. Not only did he say this "joke, but he also signed the guestbook in the Anne Frank museum with something offensive. Maybe instead of placing blame solely on Bieber, there should also be a discussion how education systems and the Hollywood culture does very little to inform younger people about the subjects of racism and prejudice while also teaching empathy and understanding of their struggles.

Which is why I'm asking what your fleshed-out response is trying to convey.

Justin used racially charged epithets and language with racist intent. Whether it was meant for "humour" or not, it is racist. Making excuses is just missing the point and a waste of time.

Where did Justin learn the jokes from? The meaning behind them was taught to him by whom?

Let us not forget that racism HAS to be taught.
There is no gene for racism, hate or prejudice. Those are societal inventions.
