Sorry about the dead air. Just one of those occasions where there's a lot going on in the background.
Survey
We're going to be launching our survey on
June 5th at 12:00PM EST (Available to members and guests). Although the survey will focus on the upgrade, there will be questions about your experience on ATRL as it is now and a couple questions to get some demographic info. The general portion of the survey will run on an annual basis.
Upgrade
There's still no date given for IPS4's launch but recently there have been a lot more updates from Invision Power that could suggest they've now finalized most of it. I'll share some general thoughts about a few of these:
- Embeddable content
Quote:
When you paste a link to almost any kind of content, whether it's a forum topic, calendar event, gallery album or more, IPS4 will automatically embed a small preview of the content, designed specifically for that content.

I don't have plans to make use of this, but it's an interesting format. We do have plans to do more with events (award shows and other major media related) but the beta period will be the best opportunity to decide whether this new embeddable format works for us.
- Profiles
This layout already has a lot of the functionality we were planning to add with custom plugins during IPB3 testing. It will save a lot of time to stick with what they have here and style it accordingly. Other notes:
- Content will be reordered to prioritize Status Feeds(Wall Posts) over Albums and Blogs.
- Recent Profile Visitors will most likely be disabled
- We'll allow the option to turn off profile banners if there's enough demand for that.
- We'd like to integrate last.fm for recently played tracks and music stats in a post-launch update
- Responsiveness
By now you've already seen our mockups for the responsive layout, but here you'll see some good examples of how IPB retains all the desktop features on your mobile device.

Note: Sometimes I'll refer to the software as IPS4 instead of IPB4. Just to clarify, IPS is the entire suite that includes IP.Board, IP.Nexus (ecommerce), IP.Blog, IP.Chat and more. The new ATRL makes use of IP.Board, IP.Content, IP.Blog and IP.Gallery.
