Why would you want Fashion as the lead. It's a filler just like Donutella. Applause was the best choice for Lead and DWUW was equal. If DWUW had an MV and instead of a child molester had a child killer like Usher it would have been a hit. Follow it up with ARTPOP (the live version) and then Mary Jane Holland add a remix with Britney or Rihanna and make a Crack house prostitute glamor music video and you have an Era that defecates on Prism in more than just quality
Close the era with Gypsy and a tour footage vid to promote artRave
My ideal vision for the beginning of the era would've been this (pretend Get Lucky didn't happen and DP made their big production return for LG) as a non-leaked iTunes exclusive single:
And the video I have in mind is perfect and would've actually made sense as 'ARTPOP.' I can expand if you want me to.
Although I do think Applause is fantastic, as is the MV.
all this plus a few high profile/ perfectly executed performances on both sides of the Atlantic and the ARTPOP era may have turned out so much better (yes expand on the video idea)
then DWUW as the second single just before the album release (no early iTunes releases)
then Applause

An album filler is not the best choice to represent an album. Don't go down the Katy Perry path of no return. It ends with in doing Beginners Yoga course with a 70 year old corpse on a Magazine cover.
