The album has some rock songs, but OVERALL the album is still Pop Rock with some Folk Rock leanings.

Phillip remains a HAC and AAA artist, Pop Rock.

Yeah, that's actually the biggest controversy about Interscope, they overprice albums.

Yeah I don't think it is just Phillip's album, it seems it is with most of their artists. For example, Ellie Goulding, Lana's new album at $14.99 too, etc
It is not like they are EPIC, they are in good financial standing

I was wondering cause I feel like Phillip is a niche artist where he doesn't really fit in any formats. Like too Pop for Rock radio and too Rock for Pop radio

He should have been (what's the word here mmmmm) introduced/launched as a Rock artist, and Alternative radio should be his main format and then crossover to HAC/POP, but ALT Radio only plays bands and not solo acts (for the most) and that's why he wouldn't fit there

The Idol stigma is STRONG. Phillip's music fits in HAC perfectly. Rock radio won't touch him (like Active Rock and I doubt Alternative will play him too).
Yeah he should have been introduced as a Rock artist, but Interscope saw it easier for him to fit in (and be accepted) HAC so that's where they went. Only a few songs of Phillip's have an Alternative sound, no where as Alternative as some songs that get played there. What Phillip really suffers from is that he wrote half of the album with pop songwriters so it is not exactly a band record like in alternative bands. Alternative bands have a cohesive sound where the various use of instruments come first then the vocals.
