!! I didn't follow music closely (was just a casual listener) until around late 2009/early 2010 and I remember being completely shocked that most of the stuff I thought was number 1, wasn't.
I was so shocked by Adele's 2012 slayage.
Like damn, she had hits, but having a damn Diamond album.
It's even crazier now looking back knowing fully on how album sales have been this decade.
Madonna using Maya Angelou's death to plug her art for freedom nonsense. She's despicable through and through. The fact that she's talentless makes her awful personality stand out even more. (and no, paying other people to have good taste for you =/= talent.)
I would object to this drag but I am actually quite fed up with this #artforfreedom mess. And did she photoshop herself onto a picture of Maya?

I didn't really pay attention to the charts much in Summer or Fall of 2011. I knew she was doing well, but I had no idea she was selling hundreds of thousands every week.
I also had no idea that SFTTR was smashing either until it went to number 2 on week (I believe). I don't even remember it ever being announced a single in the US.
