I guess people tend to deride it next to other degrees based in reasoning since it isn't rooted in something tangible (like literature or law).

It doesn't help either that most philosophy students at my uni are here because they failed to get into their chosen course so opted for philosophy instead

Ouch! Didn't all these giant corporations recently come together and spend MILLIONS to release a 3D movie about how amazing Katy Genery and her tours are??? And that movie has been available on Netflix Instant, Redbox and shown on TV!!!!

Britney is very self aware, she never heralded herself as a messiah of pop, never presented herself as the biggest star in the world, barely ever praised herself (very humble) and she never denied that the person she was on stage was just for show, a mask and nothing more.
