I simply don't see Janet's voice fitting any song that could potentially smash on today's days. Madonna also has a problem on this.

You underestimate the power radio had. Being blacklisted from radio eradicated Madonnas American life singles from the chart and Britney's Britney(the album) singles from the chart. Janet was also black listed from award shows so she couldn't promote. Ofc Dorrito Ho was hardly her best album but she has released decent material since.
