At 118 countries, X-Men: Days of Future Past opened to a massive $171.1 million overseas this weekend. According to Fox, it earned more across the same bucket of territories than The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The movie's biggest market was China, where it earned $37.7 million in its first three days. That's a bit ahead of Captain America, which has grossed over $120 million total there. This gigantic result in China is likely due in part to the inclusion of Chinese superstar Bingbing Fan, and the fact that most of the "future" section of the movie is set in China.

Days of Future Past also had the biggest debut ever for a Fox movie in 11 markets, including South Korea ($13.5 million), Brazil ($8 million), the Philippines ($3.9 million) and India ($3.9 million). Other major markets included U.K. ($14.2 million), France ($10.6 million), Mexico ($10.4 million), Russia ($10.3 million), Australia ($7.7 million) and Germany ($4.7 million).

By next weekend, Days of Future Past will be the highest-grossing X-Men movie ever ahead of The Wolverine ($282 million). With Japan and Spain still on the way, it's hard to imagine Days of Future Past falling short of $400 million total.

). They could've used it more in the movie. Only flaw of DOFP is that they don't show future that much.

This trilogy should be focusing on the past and the past only. The trio McAvoy/Fassbender/Lawrence is SO good, they need to get as much screentime as they can. Hugh Jackman already wrongfully stole screentime from them just because of star power ...

Yall don't realise that we have 1 movie left with these incredible cast and then that's it. Let's savour it.

X7 and X8 will explore the future with endless possibilities of story arc for the cast of the first trilogy. I can wait.

X2 still remains the best X-Men film, but this one comes in second. While the overall movie was solid and the major players mostly delivered, this wasn’t all that good of an execution of the concept. I get why they needed to establish such desperate times for such desperate measures, but I would have preferred a movie showing the desolate future as it unfolded because it would have given those characters something better do than merely look cool and get ****ed up.

Honestly, this should have been a two-parter that needed 890% of this movie to be the future and the final 10% to be the past to setup the second one. I realize people groan about that sort of thing but that’s how this would have worked best IMO.

Seeing Blink done well was a high point for me -- she has one of the best made-for-movie-action powers.

Avengers and Iron Man - they are solid movies, really, really great. They deserve success. But this X-Men movie is better than Avengers, CA2 and Iron Man 1 (their three best) so should gross over $1bn too but sadly it's most likely to end up in the $750-800M bracket based on estimations right now.

I'd love if it got a mega-boost next week from word-of-mouth so its drop was small

most of my friends think transformers is crap, it will underperform

Do you have some kind of mutant looking-to-the-future powers?

1 movie left, then they can renew their contracts. I bet they will. Hugh actually didn't get that much screentime, all three characters got waaay more than him - mostly JLaw "just because of her star power."

I think DOFP happened to clear the way for the new cast. But hopefully they will feature the old aswell

I took my brother to see it for a second time today... Enjoyed it more this time. Agree with the poster above, the future could have had more scenes rather than the futile fighting shown.

Saw it yesterday. Good movie. Not as good as some kind of masterpiece people talked about.
It was openned pretty much in every big markets. Even with good words of mouth X-men movies usually have bad leg. 250 millions domestic & 400 millions oversea if it lucky. It has a very little chance to top 700 millions WW

At that time the third Transformers was FOURTH highest grossing movie of all time. And it had to face one of the worst problem ever - Harry Potter 7.2. Now no other studios have guts to release big movie 2 weeks before & after TF4's release date. No one can stop the king. The general audiences love Transformers and they deverses those moneys. Keep praying and TF4 will still be the highest grossing movie globally this year
