And yeah I agree, Beyonce was creating hype throughout the whole year. After most stans and casual fans were expecting to get music before the Mrs. Carter Show started, there was definitely anticipation for new songs from her. And of course those leaks were intentional, this is Beyonce we're talking about. Had she not kept her name out there for all of 2013/continuously hinted at new music the surprise release wouldn't have worked.

While most people thought she was scared to release, including myself, she was simply working on the album and being strategic. Again, I think the plan was to release in early 2013 and then they scrapped it. Either way the plan they ended up with was executed perfectly.
