DWUW performances in general were so bad. The O2 advert was the ONE time she matched visuals and audio perfectly looking like a sexay princess. Elsewhere - X Factor, AMAs, The Voice, SNL - she just looked like a spinster Aunt who had one too many sherries and proceeded to take to the dancefloor at a wedding.
I kinda felt slightly scared watching X Factor and seeing her mount the piano like said drunk aunt and just point and shout into the audience as if she were condemning them.
344. Lady Gaga - Applause
806. Lady Gaga - Poker Face
839. Lady Gaga - Do What U Want ft. R.Kelly
843. Lady Gaga - G.U.Y.
1065. Lady Gaga - Just Dance

I loved the AMA performance, that should have been the video concept imo, we'd have probably gotten it then

Am I the only one who feels, despite it being really really good, the production of TEOG is superior to the actual lyrical song? That final saxophone solo.

I still maintain that the X-Factor performance is the Gimme More moment of her career. Thankfully it happened at a local show like that instead of something super high profile like the VMAs. Ugh, I remember being so excited to see her perform new songs thinking she'd bring it, but I was like the whole time, lol. This era has been such an emotional rollercoaster.

Gaga is a dumb bitch for not realising DWUW was a great single

Let's be fair now but if Katy and quite a few of her stans (I've noticed) stan for Penus then it might have actually been a left-field smash.
People say the lyrics in the verses are dumb and airheaded but pop radio loves that along with massive choruses.
It's still a half-baked half-assed song though.

And he was actually right. Venus, as much as I like the song, would stand no chance whatsoever on the charts. Yeah, I know it did great as a promo single and did better than the actual single, G.U.Y. ( ), still DWUW had the potential to become huge and everyone knew it, incl Gaga herself. We went through this a million of times - DWUW was meant to be huge and the video would be released if not the R.Kelly drama. With the video and a couple of further performances, DWUW would be as big as Applause at the very least and most probably, it would be bigger, while Venus, imo, not so much.

Don't let them fool yourself. They'll stan for every song that isn't released as a single. People on ATRL did the same for BTW

Do What U Want's chorus is weak and lets down the pre-chorus

Venus would have flopped but who cares lol. Not like DWUW couldn't just come after. This big ol mess could have been avoided if they just let her follow her original plan and then release DWUW afterwards..

I feel like the "R. Kelly situation" was only a big thing here. It wasn't really on the news at all. It had to have been something internal or Gaga just didn't like it.
Didn't stop her from releasing TEOG music video though so who knows.

Well, if Venus would have followed Applause and if it would have flopped, then the momentum would be gone and releasing DWUW with a video and round of performances would not be able to help. The same happened with G.U.Y., which was a good single choice, but it failed miserably beacuse of the videoless DWUW and the huge blackout in the middle of the era.
In my humble opinion, DWUW was their biggest chance to make ARTPOP smash.
Oh well, I still love the album.

Venus only did better than G.U.Y. because of its pre-album release. If their promotions had switched (G.U.Y. as promo, Venus as third single following a three month hiatus), then G.U.Y. would have possibly made top 20-30, while Venus wouldn't have even charted.

Yeah, DWUW only would have worked as well as it did as a second single. Troy Carter easily made the right decision. She should have listened to him more imho but that's over and done with. Hi Bobby. Make Gypsy happen.

I thought about it too, but I refuse to believe she would just let go and not release the video at all if she had any say in this. The "R.Kelly situation" was quite big in the UK also, and it's along with the US one of her biggest markets. I think it had a lot to do with him, but at the same time, I think something besides that had to happen.
