Well this is safe, what makes you think she should continue being safe? If anything, the furthest from safe. Legendary Lovers is the right call.

Honestly, I did want International Smile as the next single, but seeing how Birthday has performed so far and how they're sort of in the same vein of pop, I do think it would flop horribly, even if it is my second favorite song off the album (Birthday being first).
Sadly, TIHWD probably would do better than this simply because it's so much different sonically from her other hits, even if it is garbage.

No no no no no NO! The only singles left to be releaed are WOA or LL. The GP has spoken. Katy needs different, not safe.
Everybody knew Birthday would under perform, its way too generic and isn't on the same level as other music right now, like G.U.Y.
I knew this song would not do well its a fan favorite and very generic they should have went with.

Those singles dont sound generic. They are catchy and different. Who cares if TIHWD sounds immature it also sounds like a smash hit and people like it. My friends were like who is this when they heard it. So risks mean not going with what you think is gonna be a hit based on reviews that said Uncle and Birthday were #1 hits waiting to happen while Dark Horse was Judged to be to strange for radio.

I can't find the Katy base (was it closed?), but I'm a big fan of hers.
Birthday is a phenomenal song, it has such a fresh sound and all of my friends (oddly enough, straight guys?) seem to be here for it. Give it time, it will be a hit!
Who knows what they have planned though.
