It was horrible back in 2012. Every time any pop star released a song that wasn't dance-pop, there were melt-downs and most people would say it was boring or it would flop. Even early 2013 it was a bit like that (e.g. when Suit & Tie was released). It was a sad situation really, that people could only see one possible way to get a hit, and anything else was bound to flop.
I think even now people still have a little bit of that mentality left in them tbh.
This song is way more up-beat than All Of Me, the current #1.
Yes it is a pop song, its a pop and hip hop song. Just accept it already.
