@ people saying because it'll be dumb. Of course it's chances or charting/selling well will be cut significantly but all that can change with the right song. Her star-power alone can solidify a decent debut , she just needs the right material.

This isn't even related to the upcoming single. It's just in general. I probably love the single that's not the point.
Nicki is releasing her lead single from her third album, tomorrow. She's talked about how in her raps she has focused on storytelling, not punchlines and metaphors.. which is something I thought we wanted more of, from her.
You used Iggy as an example, with rap verses and a singing pop hook. So that is okay, as long as a "singer" sings the chorus? What if the rapper, in this case Nicki, is talented enough to do both?
You make lots of understandable points, but maybe this is the music Nicki likes the most. Pop has always been an influence on her.
Nicki isn't scared, she's just not stupid. Nicki said it in her 'press conference' track, those same people who want her to 'go rap' won't buy her albums - she knows where the money is and i'm not mad at her. As long as it's not generic pop, i'm all for it. I prefer urban pop with rap bits from Nicki anyway, she's so diverse that it works for her.
And she watches the charts too cause most of Nicki's pop stuff is what sells on the charts, she's just being smart.
I'm not saying she can't sing her own chorus. But let it be a hip-hop hook like Drake does or like she did on What's Wrong With Them or YM Salute, or sing in certain like IWBWY or TapOut.

She has pop fans and that's the thing. Why abandon a part of your fan base to cater to another part? Why not just wrap it all it one. That's what she does and will continue to do for the lead single.
