It's retro throwback. It's not like disco is some fresh new concept to popular music that's being worn out by second-, third-, and fourth-rate imitators the way synth pop, house, and dubstep were a few years ago. Aside from Call Me Maybe, Treasure and Get Lucky are really the ONLY two mainstream hit songs in the past few years to feature such prominent disco influences. Disco was definitely not the "sound of 2013," especially not to the point where using disco in 2014 makes it sound dated to 2013.
