I got my label out of debt. I went from being roughly $12 million in debt, to having $6 million in my account. But then I decided to start releasing live albums and DVDs, and completely depleted my account. And when my most successful artists recorded, released and promoted their albums, it brought me down to like -$50 million.
I definitely recommend releasing live albums and DVDs, especially ones with all of the music videos on them. My major artist sold over 1.25 million in America alone with their music video DVD and it was a surprise release with no promo or anything.
Also, touring is a good idea for your big artists. You can send them on a tour in "enormous" venues, and even if you only sell 10% of your tickets, you make a fortune. One of my artists made $120 million
profit from a tour across America. It seems that only American tours are successful, though. Worldwide tours sell terribly, even if your artist is huge outside of America.
But this is really fun! I've wasted so many hours on it. I've learned a lot about how the industry works, and why they use different strategies and whatnot.
