You could hear Martin and Shellback’s touch in the bright, punchy sound of those songs, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were *Trouble,” and “22.” Yet the songs are unmistakably Swiftian; unlike other Martin songs, you can’t imagine them being recorded, interchangeably, by Katy Perry, or Pink, or any of the other usual suspects. Listen to a key line in “22”: “We’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time / It’s miserable and magical.” It’s a classic Swift lyric: purple but precise, self-involved yet self-aware—all in all, about as spot-on a description of a young woman’s turbulent inner life as you’re likely to hear on hit radio.

I'm sorry but "IKYWT" is fierce. Teacherous is my fav on "Red" , but MM tracks are good.. Her first single will be a pop single or she'll release something that's unregonizable via JT's "Sexy Back" (people were like... that's Justin Timberlake?). and to think he fought with his record label to release that single.

Agreed Val.
Glad she's sticking with Max for a few more songs on LP5. "Love Story" might technically be her biggest worldwide hit (barely), but the MM songs actually made HER a worldwide star. Glad she's following her ambitions, and not being a slave to music critics.
I don't know why you guys think just because she's working with MM, she's going to automatically produce generic PRISM quality songs. Weren't the Max songs some of the most critically acclaimed of her career?

IKR? They're clever, sarcastic, sassy, biting, fun; brimming with personality and little ad-libs that brightens up the songs.
