Well, duels over more than 1 episode has been something since forever, except on GX.
DM had duels that most of the time lasted for 3+ episodes, GX most of the time were 1 episode. in 5D's we had a lot of 1 episode duel, but mostly the greatest duels lasted for 2+ episodes. In Zexal 2 episodes duels dominated.
Seeing the titles of the future episodes of ARC-V we can say they will be 1 episode duels:
