I really don't think anything has changed but the medium. Its just that this isn't her generation so this is all different to her. She's part of the MTV generation I don't get why she's acting so dense and scared by technology.

The medium is what changes the intensity/degree. Studios/publicists used to be a lot more capable of keeping unsavory aspects of a celebrity's personal lives hidden from the public even when they were open secrets in the industry.
