In my eyes, this didn't seem like a surprise incident. Solange walked into that elevator confronting Jay, so something had to have happened beforehand that led to his beating.

I've, unfortunately, seen family squabbles take place and when someone started swinging, there was an immediate reaction from those around.

I can't say that her behavior was normal. She didn't even move when the sunglasses, or whatever, flew and almost hit her.
