When I was on vacation, we had these house cats and wild alley cats yowling at each other every night. Pretty sure they were either smashing or fighting.

Cats try and avoid fighting if at all possible but they find it hard to back down from a confrontation. This is because they are solitary animals Getting into a fight is a bad idea because if they get injured they can't rely on a group for protection. It's almost impossible for them to turn their backs on a hostile cat in a confrontation though so they just have these stand offs and shriek at each other.

Ofc females make similar shrieking noises when they are in heat, although it's usually more wailing and less screaming,

I know what you mean. Sometimes it scares the hell out of me. My Boyfriend gets so pissed because they cry in the middle of the night and they dont let him sleep. So sometimes he gets a bucket of cold water and throws it at the cats.

I'm glad to have a cat that is silent unless you're bringing the food dish full of food to her, then she'll meow once faintly.

In the 3 years I've had her, I've heard her meow or make any noise about 5 times.

My mom dislikes my cat because my cat is always screaming or meowing at her. My grandma tries to smack my cat when she is on the table.

I hear cat cries often from outdoors when two cats confront each other. My cat does it too when she sees another cat out the window... it's more of a "murderous scream" than a meow though. Other than that she doesn't cry. She only meows when I'm in my room with the door closed because she wants to come in.

I mean, cats are like people. They all have different personality. My cat is kinda boss but that because we didn't have her when she was a kitten. My grandmas sister has 3 cats and 2 dogs. One cat is going blind but it has always be kind.
