Normally they use a series of projectors positioned in various places to project her image onto an "invisible screen" that gives the illusion that she's a hologram.
Um.. because it involves some not being able to go, and losing money. Some people can't take off their big boy jobs and just magically reschedule days before an event. Some people also have nonrefundable tickets, booked flights/trains/buses, and have already booked rooms. If you aren't affected, you wouldn't understand how frustrating it is, especially since I can't go now, and I've had it booked for months looking forward to it..
