And why exactly do ''we need'' a new single now? People seem to forget Lana doesn't really care about being the the biggest artist at the moment. She's actually aiming for little success. She hates being overxposed (like during the BTD era).

See, this is not about looking up the charts. It's really not. There have been so many mess ups before the album is even out (oh, and we still don't know when it will be released), it's more about having a competent and professional team who is having their **** together to protect the artist from massive failure.

I don't even care about the video. If that's the visual she wants then that's fine. I don't like it but it doesn't matter.

But her team has been so incompetent lately. From the beginning they couldn't even put up the banners on her site correctly. They got leaked and the dates didn't match up with each other. Even the iTunes banner came out too late. Then the video release date has been all over the place I am convinced that they have completely forgotten about Europe too.

Interscope needs to crack that whip and give them deadlines.

Obviously not getting enough budget to film a video worth for an artist who has made brilliant videos so far

I like that she is heading sowhere else with this record and the West Coast is a great song (although unsual for a first single), but when you release the first single from an artist who has sold 5 million records and over 12 million singles worldwide, you could at least expect that they can handle the releases with enough professionalism and respect towards the artist who has been one of the biggest selling acts the last 2,5 years worldwide.

I already guessed that back when WC dropped.

It's good but honestly I don't think it's all that distinctive compared to other rock songs It's a standout Lana song but otherwise it just sounds like a classic rock song. That's mainly Dan's fault though. A lot of his stuff just sounds like classic rock band songs.

This. I can't with some people here obsessed with the charts, even when it really is not applicable to some artists' success. Lana is not expected to sell Rihanna/Beyonce/Katy levels. She is not a pop girl. Her promo and marketing have never mirrored that of a pop girl, so I'm not understanding why people are crying "2nd single please!" as if she has ever been an artist who has relied on the frontloaded monetary success of any given single. The focus for most music like this is likely critical acclaim over monster sales. The dramatics of some of the conclusions being drawn here about the quality of "success" of Ultraviolence based on this video/song is in typical ATRL, top 40-obsessed fashion. Not everyone is meant to be Miley Cyrus, people.

I'm aware that this era has been messy marketing wise but Lana seems unbothered. I can deal with the mess as long as the artist doesn't care either tbh.
